Rental Information FAQ
If you have any other questions, please reach out and ask an employee. We are happy to answer or explain anything in more detail.
There are 3 ways to do update payment information.
1. You can either log into your account on our website and update it there.
2. Call in with your card info and we can update it over the phone.
3. Bring your card in and we can update it in-person.
We require a valid credit or debit card to be on file for the duration of the rental. If you complete the rental in person at the store (or a rental night at a school), you can make the first payment in cash, but we still need to log your card info for future payments.
You can also come in and make subsequent payments in cash before your monthly payment date. For example, if your payment date is the 10th of each month, you can come in until the 9th and pay in cash and we won't run your card that month.
Our normal rental program does not really allow this type of set up.
If you are interested in an accelerated rental, please contact us.
Yes... but we don't really recommend doing that. The rental program's flexibility is the low up-front cost and the fact that you can return the instrument at any point.
If you'd like to set up an installment contract, please contact us.
The instruments we carry come from reputable brands and have easily available part support. This means for you that when an issue does arise, we are able to fix it for you easily and quickly. These instruments are designed for beginners in mind with durability and ease of play, and will hold up through years of use.
Typically, the new instruments available from Amazon from brands such as Mendini, Cecilio, Glory, Eastrock/Eastar, Jean Paul, etc. are just not good quality instruments. Often they are manufactured poorly and are out of tune, break easily, or are unrepairable due to materials used. A good rule of thumb is: If its an unusual color (pink, white, etc) or comes with white gloves, we don't recommend it due to poor quality.
At WVMC, we are big proponents of honesty. If you have a small budget and renting from us is cost prohibitive, it is better to rent an instrument from the school or purchase a used quality instrument. We are happy to help you determine whether an instrument is a "good deal" or not.
Brands we carry for our rentals: Yamaha, Jupiter, Antigua, Pearl, Buffet.
Other brands that are good quality to look for: Armstrong, Artley, Bach, Backun, Conn, Evette, Gemeinhardt, Getzen, Holton, King, Olds, Reynolds, Selmer, Vito, Yanagisawa. etc. Good places to find used instruments: Our store, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, Reverb.com, pawnshops, etc. Ask family and friends if they have an instrument your player can use.
The rental would need to be in their name. They will need to fill out the paperwork, sign, and put their card on file. We are able to have a secondary contact listed, but for our purposes the person paying for the rental will be the eventual owner of the instrument, so they need to be the primary person on the account.
The account holder must be 18 with a valid ID and a credit or debit card on file. A minor (under 18 years old) cannot rent an instrument.
Ideally, you would have an idea of what you'd like to play, or at least narrowed down to 2-3 options. Depending how busy we are at the store when you come in, we may be able to let you try some instruments to decide what you like best.
Orchestral instruments (Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass) come in different sizes, determined by the players height and arm length. Ideally your orchestra teacher should size you, but we are able to do it at the store as well. Violins, Cellos, and Basses are fractional (4/4, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, etc) while Violas are measured in inches (12", 13", 14", 15", etc).
